Rails and Trails Adventure with Tom Schuler
For a rare opportunity to ride with U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame inductee and former 7-Eleven team member, Tom Schuler, on his annual rails and trails adventure from Milwaukee to St. Paul and back. Each year Tom and some of his friends ride from Milwaukee to St. Paul to on a luxurious, vintage streamliner passenger train, including the last operating Milwaukee Road “Skytop” glass backed observation car, the “Cedar Rapids” (designed by Brooks Stevens) and a Milwaukee Road full-length Super Dome car. This year he is donating two spots on this invite only trip to support the Bike Fed.
No need to box your bike, simply put it in the baggage car and the fun begins as soon as you board the train in Milwaukee. Once aboard you will wonder why train travel fell out of favor as you are treated to free appetizers, a gourmet meal and open bar with top shelf liquor. Once you arrive in St. Paul, you will bike to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and stay in a room overlooking the Mississippi River. The next day after breakfast, you pedal down the scenic Mississippi River Trail and stay at the Historic Trempeleau Hotel. Day two you roll through the famous tunnels on Elroy Sparta and 400 trails as you ride down to Reidsburg. Day three is through the hilly, low traffic town roads of the lower Driftless Region and a ride on the Merrimac Ferry before you make the final push to Milwaukee.
At a little more than 100 miles pedaling a day, this is a no-drop ride and includes plenty of stops at some of Tom’s favorite spots along the route.

Youth Education Programs Fund-A-Need
Help raise money for two incredible Bike Fed programs aimed at getting more kids biking, walking, and learning to repair bikes.
The new Dane County Safe Routes to School Program will continue the momentum created by the past several years of SRTS planning. This county-wide effort will increase the diversity of the beneficiaries and number and safety of children walking and biking to school in the state’s second largest county. Increasing active transportation reduces congestion, improves the health and safety of our communities, and reduces transportation costs for everyone. With 18 school districts, 180 schools, and over 67,000 students, Dane County SRTS has great potential to increase walking and biking rates.
Can a bike be a vehicle for change? We think so. That’s why the Wisconsin Bike Fed operates Valid Bike Shop.
