City of La Crosse adopts Bike/Ped Master Plan

The city of La Crosse adopted a Bike/Ped Master Plan November 8th with a vote of 17-0. The process included the work of a steering committee, bicycle and pedestrian workshops in the community, public informational meetings and the work of city staff, T.Y. Lin and International and Yaggy Colby. The result is a document which gives bicyclists and pedestrians hope for more comfortable infrastructure in the city.

With $50,000 in 2013 Capital Budget for implementation, the next step is to form a permanent committee and designate a Bike Ped Coordinator. The following is an abbreviated list of recommendations in the plan:

  • Identify
  • critical pedestrian crossing and improve with pavement markings, signs,
    and traffic control devices.
  • Reduce travel speed on Losey Boulevard and West Avenue to the speed limit
  • Begin work to create new Bike Boulevards on 17th Street and Farnam Street
  • Continue planning for a continuous Riverfront Trail
  • Complete a connected network of on-street bicycle facilities and directional signs in the heart of La Crosse.
