Bicicle (sic) Fun Begins Tomorrow in Madison

Bicycles + Icicles = Bicicle

In conjunction with the USA Cycling Cyclo-Cross National Championships, the stalwart  winter cyclists around the Madison area have put together some fun events off the bike for racers and spectators alike. 

Jan 4th – 8th, Badger Prairie Park, Verona, WI  –

Thursday, Jan 5th

8pm: A number of films featuring out beloved bicycle

$10: Majestic Theater – 115 E King St – Madison, WI

  • On Time [7min, 1987] Riding through the busy streets of NY, a bicycle messenger must deliver his package “on time.”
  • Parasol [5min, 2009] A beautiful, swift silent film about a bicycle, rainstorm& two lovers.
  • Jitensha [20min, 2011] A story about a young man struggling to find meaning in life. Just as it seems that things could not possibly get any worse, parts of Mamoru’s bicycle begin to disappear, one by one. Trailer:
  • Jour de Fete [76min, 1949] Set in a quaint French village, this nearly silent, slapstick film follows a postman who resolves to deliver the mail with the speed of the NYC postal service via his trusty bicycle. Snippet:

Friday, Jan 6th

6pm – 9pm: Bike-Art Extravaganza

Tenney Plaza – 3 S Pinckney St – Madison, WI (Special thanks to Urban Land Interests for donating the space!)

Bike-art installation featuring Taliah Lempert [Bicycle Paintings, Brooklyn] and COG Magazine [Milwaukee].

6pm – Close: Mad Cross Photo Exhibition

Natt Spil – 211 King St – Madison, WI

Featuring a collection of photographs taken of Madison Cyclo-Cross from over the years.


Saturday, Jan 7th

1pm – 4pm: The Squeezettes

Badger Prairie Park – Verona, WI

What better way to watch a bike race than with polka music, brats & beer?

6pm – 9pm : ArtPedlar

Revolution Cycles – 2330 Atwood Ave – Madison, WI

The third annual “ArtPedlar” features affordable bicycle-themed prints by local artists in one of Madison’s great bike shops.
8pm – 2am Bicicle Party & Winter Bike Fashion Show

$5: High Noon Saloon – 701 E Washington – Madison , WI

Featuring a Winter Bike Fashion Show showcasing some of the different DIY creations we hardy winter bikers have crafted to keep us in the saddle all year + some nifty innovations from the professionals, as well as music and other bike fun!
