The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, a state-wide non-profit Bicycle Advocacy and Education Organization, is seeking a Bicycle Transportation Planner. The Planner will serve as a project manager for all on-going planning contracts and securing future consulting based planning work.
This position requires experience in bicycle/pedestrian planning and its connection to broad based transportation and urban/community planning. Project management experience as a planning consultant is preferred. Must be proficient in the use of ESRI GIS and Microsoft software and have excellent writing and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications are a Bachelor’s Degree in planning and 1-2 years of experience and a passion for bicycling.
The position is based out our Milwaukee office, but we will perform planning work across the State of Wisconsin so some travel will be required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and abilities and health insurance benefits, vacation, sick leave and flexible work schedule are offered – along with the opportunity to work for a great organization in a world-class cycling community.

Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin – Lead Planner
Position:
To manage planning contracts and activities of the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (BFW or Bike Fed) and to work with the Executive Director to solicit future contract planning work. This position reports to the Executive Director and would be responsible for managing planning support staff as needed. This position will be based in the Milwaukee, WI BFW office.
This is a salaried, full-time position.
Job duties:
- Manage and complete all on-going planning contracts and activities within their current project time-lines and budgets.
- Perform all planning tasks including public presentations, field assessments, and plan writing and formatting.
- Represent the BFW as a professional consulting firm specializing in bicycle transportation planning, GIS mapping, and related activities.
- Work with the Executive Director and Outreach coordinator to create a marketing plan for our planning consulting services.
- Project proposals and presentations in efforts to secure future planning contracts.
Skills/abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present project proposals to a panel.
- Ability to work independently and represent the BFW is a professional manner.
- Posses a detailed understanding of bicycle planning issues.
- General knowledge of a project based consulting business.
- Understanding of basic bicycle and pedestrian advocacy principals
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ESRI GIS software absolutely necessary; knowledge of the Adobe design suite is desired.
Education and/or experience:
- B.S. degree in planning is highly desirable.
- 1-2 years experience working as a planner with project management is highly desirable.

Business Manager
The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin is seeking an outgoing and experienced person to manage office operations, membership and oversee bookkeeping duties. Persons with bookkeeping and office management talents, along with great interpersonal and communication skills will find this an appealing position. Attention to detail and office organization skills are a must. A passion for bicycling is helpful.
Demonstrated experience with QuickBooks and basic bookkeeping practices required. Past experience administering the operations of a small business or nonprofit is desired. Degree in business administration, finance or accounting very helpful. Practical experience with databases also helpful.
The position is based in our Madison office, but will require some administration and management of the Milwaukee office. Salary will be commensurate with experience and abilities. Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin – Business Manager
Position:
To manage the daily business of the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin including bookkeeping, office administration, administration of insurance and benefits, member communications and renewals and volunteer coordination.
This position requires experience in office management and bookkeeping, as well as highly refined organization and communication skills.
Bookkeeping Duties:
- Process invoices, pay bills and reconcile bank accounts with internal tracking systems
- Enter donations and donor information into database
- Oversee banking transactions
- Annual financial audit preparation assistance
Business management duties:
- Sort and distribute the mail
- Maintain office supply inventory
- Manage member communications and renewals
- Manage online sales of membership and BFW merchandise
- Administer and maintain company-wide insurance program
- Volunteer recruitment and coordination
- Support of special projects as needed.
- Maintain contacts with suppliers and vendors
- Maintain list of press and media contacts for sending press releases from BFW Management
- Coordinate and manage incoming advertising and sales revenue
- Assist in the creation of advertising and promotional materials
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and represent the BFW in a professional manner
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop desirable
- Positive attitude and willingness to have fun at work a must!
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations a plus
Education:
- College degree in business or related field highly desirable
- Relevant equivalent work experience also considered
Environment/Physical Demands:
- This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week in an office environment. Some offsite work such as tabling and events will be required
