Bike Winter in La Crosse was a lot of fun this February. We started off with an urban ride on a warm rainy day through slush covered streets, which is where I met Michael Baker, a Wisconsinite who knows how to get the most out of winter and biking. Check out his bike to ski set-up in the photo to the left. He straps his skies and poles to his Wyatt (a LAX-based bike company) commuter and pedals to the trails!Advertisement
The winter urban ride gave the hearty group who took the challenge, the opportunity to test their waterproof gear and store up their recommendations for the Fashion Social. Michael was ready for the next activity as well.
The Social brought out a wide range of riders who were eager to share everything from studded tire suggestions to hats and ear covers and even a clever DIY substitution for commercially available Bar Mitts.
The Pearl Street Brewery provided a really lively atmosphere for our Bike Winter Maintenance Seminar. Dan Novak from River Trails Cycles was there to give us tips about keeping all of the sand, salt, and slop off of our bikes.
The party at The Wine Guyz brought together a group of riders and friends who braved the cold blustery day to enjoy the generous array of meat and cheese. The beverage selection is always tempting and the owners create a very welcoming place to socialize.
The events came to a conclusion with a very successful Bike Swap leaving us all ready to begin planning for next year’s activities.
Although we love winter in La Crosse, some of us are also looking forward to Spring. Michael is planning some of his multi-modal adventures with his canoe.
