On Sunday I had the honor of attending Fed Fest in Appleton. This is the second year Fed Fest has been held in the Fox Cities. This year’s event was held in Peabody Park, a beautiful river-side location. Fed Fest attracted a crowd of 50-60 people of all ages and bicycling interests. After lunch and an awards ceremony the group divided and headed off for three different rides: a 28-mile road ride, a 12 mile city ride and a 3-4 mile family ride.
I brought my commuting bike and joined in on the city ride. It was a joy to see Appleton, Little Chute and Kimberly from my bike. The highlight was riding on the newly completed Heritage Parkway Trail in Little Chute.
Here’s the route we took:
And a few pictures from Fed Fest:
This year’s event would not have been possible without the leadership and support of the Fox Cities Cycling Association. The FCCA promoted the event and attracted the crowd. FCCA is also doing great work organizing and promoting bicycling in the Fox Cities, from thanking political leaders from their bicycle support, to promoting bicycle infrastructure to building single-track mountain bike trails. They’re doing it all. Keep up the great work.
Please join the Bike Fed at other Fed Fests around Wisconsin. We’ve got upcoming events in La Crosse, Eau Claire, Madison and Milwaukee. Details here.
If you’re interested in gathering together bicycle supporters and hosting a Fed Fest in your community please shoot me an e-mail and we’ll get you on the calendar for 2013.
